New to the area?

If you have recently moved to City & Hackney, you need to register with a local GP practice to access NHS care.

Registration is free and you do not need proof of address, immigration status, or identification to receive care, though bringing ID may help with your records.

To find a practice, use the NHS Find a GP tool or see our map above. Choose a practice close to your home or work, then contact them directly to register. Most practices allow online registration, and reception teams can help if you prefer to visit in person.

Once registered, you will be able to book appointments, request repeat prescriptions, and access local health services. You can also read about what to expect from your general practice on the NHS England website.

Duty Doctor

We recommend this service instead of going to A&E at the hospital. If you have a life-threatening emergency, please call 999.

 

The Duty Doctor is only available for patients registered with a GP in City and Hackney, for when you have an URGENT medical problem. Please note this does not apply to patients registered with the Greenhouse Practice.

 

8:00 AM - 6.30pm MONDAY – FRIDAY (excluding bank holidays)

 

How to contact the Duty Doctor:

1. Phone the practice and explain to reception that you have an urgent problem.

2. If appropriate, reception can then put you on the Duty Doctor list.

3. The Duty Doctor will ring you back within 2 hours.

4. The Duty Doctor will decide with you what you need, which could be:

 

    • Advice over the phone
    • An appointment at the practice
    • A home visit if you are really not well
    • A referral to another service

This service offers you quick access to your GP practice, where they know you and have your full medical record.
